If you are thinking of Dead Sea, you are mistaken. Dead Sea is really salty and among the saltiest seas in the whole world. But the saltiest body of water in the world is the Don Juan Pond, also called Lake Don Juan in Antarctica.
A small and very shallow hypersaline lake in the west end of Wright Valley (South Fork), Victoria Land, Antarctica, the Don Juan Pond has a salinity level of over 40 percent. Compare it with Dead Sea’s salinity level which is 33.7 percent.
Don Juan Pond was discovered in 1961 and named for two helicopter pilots, Lt Don Roe and Lt John Hickey, who piloted the helicopter involved with the first field party investigating the pond.
