Many people wear and love silver. But most really do not have a very solid idea about the origins of silver.
Silver is one of the precious metals. At present, approximately 18,000 metric tons of silver is being mined annually in sixty countries around the world. Ten of these sixty nations account for a full 85 percent of the total amount of silver mined.
The easy and understandable assumption is that all the silver comes from silver ore since gold comes from gold ore, copper comes from copper ore and so forth. However, when it comes to silver, it does not all come from silver ore. 15 percent of the silver mined comes from gold ore, the remaining silver coming from a combination of copper, lead and zinc ore.
